I Have Become a Shameless Self-Promoter

I never really thought of myself as a vain person. I have always been outgoing and outspoken, but not one to blow my own horn. Now that I am a self-published author, I find that I must also be a self-promoter. I have been doing all the things other authors tell me I should be doing. I joined a group of other authors to learn about what they do to promote their work, I have been putting myself out there at book signings and other personal appearances, I visit independent book stores to try to get them to sell my books, I have become more active on social media, and I started a blog.

I should probably post more on the blog and the social media sites and am working toward that. I am on a fixed income and cannot afford to hire a publicist. I keep waiting for those Publisher’s Clearing House folks to show up at my door with that big check, but alas, they have not shown up yet.  Money would solve so many problems!

I do not have a publisher to promote my work and have found that most publishers now want their authors to submit a detailed promotion plan along with their manuscripts to be considered for publication. If the publishing companies are not going to promote the work, why do authors go through all the trouble of querying them? Why not just self-publish and keep all the control? This is something I think most new authors are now struggling with.

So, I have become a shameless self-promoter, telling everyone about my books and projects.
