Full Moon Spring Cleaning

OK, so it’s 13 days until Spring starts. Why not get some spring cleaning done? I’ve just read the book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, and it was an amazing read. Kondo’s clients never relapse, and her basic premise is that you surround yourself only with things that bring you joy. I believe that the energy in your house can raise or lower your mood, especially if it’s clean or messy. I strive to make my house like a sanctuary, someplace that I come home to and just go “Aaahhh.”


Why not take the energy of the full moon and use it to start tidying your home? You do this by starting today, yes today. Begin by going through your closets, drawers, and rooms and releasing whatever no longer makes you happy. Take five minutes to start, and it’ll give you the energy you need to continue the next day. As the moon wanes (gets smaller), it is good to release things, emotions, whatever no longer serves you. The moon will support you on this journey, and then on the new moon, March 20th, which happens to coincide with the start of Spring, you can set your intentions for Spring 2015!

Releasing things helps to tell the universe you’re ready for new, better things to come into your life. In fact, it wouldn’t hurt at all if you sent out to the universe a message that says, I’m releasing so that I can receive better things into my life, as you clean and get rid of things that don’t bring you joy.

Some great things to support you on your journey are a moon app I use, called Moon Phase Pro, a journal to help you deal with any emotions that come up during the process, and books about tidying and living a better life. I recommend the book above, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo, and the books At Home with Madame Chic: Becoming a Connoisseur of Daily Life and Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris, both by Jennifer L. Scott. After this cleaning, the items you do keep will bring a sparkle to your eye and you’ll feel so much lighter. Happy tidying!
